To get me in the mood I stuck on some choons (actually I didn't listen to that particular CD, but that cover is wicked!)("100% pure cheddar!")(I have to use that phrase more often) and then stuck on Britter's first album.
OK - so I wasn't sure what to expect from Crossroads. I knew it wasn't going to be anything like the British TV Show of the same name. I mean, can you really see Britney playing a receptionist at a Brummie motel?! (Wow - that would be a dream come true). (Here's a link to another Brummie lass).
Alright, first up someone told me that Britney can be seen dancing around in her undies in the first scene. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE get your facts right - it's not until the 2nd SCENE that she's dancing around. The story is all about these 3 girlies who go off to California in the hope of finding - errrr - something. It wasn't that clear what they were looking for. One was looking for her blokie, the other wanted a fresh start, and the other went along for the ride. Anyway - they get a ride with this geezer and whaddya know Britney has a love interest when this guy who sings her a song (hey - that's my style!) and eveyone is all smiles. Or so you think.
There's one part of the movie that really did my head in. The girls are driving the car while the blokie sleeps. He wakes up and goes toally bonkers and orders them to stop the car. He gets out and throw's a wobbler. You kind of expect a big punchline - like they're about to run out of petrol (gas) in the middle of the desert. But no - all he says is that spending 4 days with 3 women has messed him up. Britney sorts him out and they carry on. I didn't like this bit of the film at all. Anyway - you'll have to watch it for yourselves to find out the ending!
The jewel in this DVD crown is the special features. The highlight is you get to learn how to make T-Shirts? that Britney actually wore in the movie! Wicked! That section was called "Teryn's T-Shirts" 'cos Teryn's the girl who plays Mimi in the movie, and she was the one doing the special feature. It was just like Blue Peter - they kept going over to "here's one I made earlier" - but if I were a young teen once again, I'd definetly be making these T-Shirts? and showing how cool I am (although I'd obviously be doing them in a blokie style). Careful though - there are sharp knifes and scissors involved - they recommend adult supervision, so I'd definetly need some assistance (maybe these girls can help me out)?
Then there was a section called "Frist In Line" with Zoe Saldana - she's one of the the other girlies in the movie. She was kewl 'cos she said NYC was the best city in the States. Anyway - you got to see lots of behind-the-scenes footage at the Crossroads premiere. It was cool! She said she gets annoyed 'cos everyone always asks her what's it like working with Britney like 45 squillion times. Anyway, Zoe seemed like a normal person :) So then they go and watch the movie. Then they go and see the fans! Actually - she left by a back exit and then went round the front to meet fans and sign autographs. That's quite a cool tip next time you're waiting to see you fave celeb appear at a movie premier - go round the back at the end of the movie! Then there was a cool aftershow party. Here's a pic of her at the premier (she's a HB!)
The next section was this 40 days with Britney Spears. Britney said that apparently *every girl* related to the song "not a girl, not yet a woman". Is that true? Let me know! Everyone said Britney was really great to work with. She told them the concept she wanted for the film and they ran with it. You learn from this great feature that Britney has a lot more depth than what you see in her music videos - Crossroads is a movie about real teens with real problems. She's smart and she's funny. They go on about how you actually get to see into her eyes (I found this part to be really true - her eyes are lovely!) and you get to see what the real Britney's like - and she's lovely! (well, that's what they said)
There was also this cool feature where you can make your own video for "Not A Girl". Actually - it was a little bit complicated, I couldn't work out how to select the scenes I wanted for my richii.com video, 'cos as soon as I selected a scene, it kind of repeated. I got really confused and the video didn't really end up how I wanted it. Perhaps it's best to leave this section to the kids.
There was also a singalong where you do "Overprotected" or "Not A Girl". It was like Karoake - Britters didn't sing except at the chorus. My voice wasn't up to it, so I left that part out.
So that was the DVD. Very enjoyable! Watch the trailer if you still need convincing.
But - my Britney weekend didn't end there. Someone had given me this article from In Style magazine - the article was called True Brit (I thought that was a great title, since I'm a Brit aswell)(I want one of these for my bathroom!). The photo's in this mag were really great - Britney's Bedroom is awesome - and I learned that Britney has a pair of blue jeans which used to belong to Marilyn Monroe. She also has two pillows on her dresser - one saying "Naughty" and the other saying "Nice".
That wrapped up my Britney weekend - go rent or buy the DVD today and have your very own Britney weekend! (Be sure to tell me how it went!)
